10 inch Advent Taper Candle Ring Set

Set includes one 10" brass Advent ring and eight 10" taper candles (3 purple, 1 pink, and 4 white taper candles). Each taper is 10 inch tall and has a diameter of 7/8" that will fit most standard taper holders. All tapers in this set are unscented.

The liturgical preparation for the Advent or coming of Christ includes the four Sundays before Christmas. A circular fixture is used to support the four candles (three purple and one pink). The first purple candle is lit on the fourth Sunday before Christmas (can be burned during the Saturday evening meal of the day before). On the following Sunday the first purple candle is re-lit along with another purple candle. The third Sunday (the Sunday of Advent), the pink candle is lighted along with the two previously burned purple candles. The Sunday before Christmas sees the lighting of all four of the candles to celebrate the arrival of Christmas.

The Advent wreath celebration has a long tradition as a family observance. It begins with the blessing of the wreath at the evening meal on the Saturday before the first Sunday of Advent. One by one a new candle is lit throughout the month of December. Then on Christmas Day, the colored candles are replaced with the white candles, which are burned until the ceremony concludes with the Feast of Epiphany.
