A French pendeloque, the shape used on antique and reproduction chandeliers. Flat on the front and back, with curved flaring sides, a scalloped beveled edge and a taper to a central point. The flat faces work like small mirrors while the scalloped rim breaks the light along the edge, which is why one French crystal reads as ornament where a spear reads as sparkle.

A spiral wire hook is fitted at the top, so the pendeloque hangs directly on a chandelier arm, a candelabra or a lamp finial in place of a missing original.

This is the replacement crystal to buy when a chandelier is missing a drop, and the one to choose for a formal or vintage wedding. A single French pendeloque at the center of a candelabra will do more than a dozen small decorative crystals scattered around it.
